Mad Night

Tonight was Mad Men night.  A friend of mine has yet to catch on to the series, so I had the bright idea of starting a Mad Men night every Friday to indulge in the girl fun (while drooling over dresses we wish we owned). I came home all ready for this, even contemplated making some bites to spoil ourselves, but it seems the first Mad Men Friday is postponed.

So here I am, drinking coffee from one of my new glass mugs (photos forthcoming), and feeling slightly guilty to be out of the blog loop. There have been too many things going on job-wise. Too many opportunities have come my way, and I, being myself, decided to take up all of them. But thankfully it’s the weekend and so I have a chance to catch my breath.

As regards the renovation, still no big changes, though the space is finally empty of stuff. I’m currently making do with whatever furniture was already in my possession, and will slowly start buying stuff for the home as the renovation begins and ends. It feels very much like my early college years. That’s a lie. Maybe the first couple of days of my college career, because after that (thanks to Target etc) I managed to acquire an assortment of homely things. That’s not going to happen now, as I’m determined to pace myself and find the right thing at the right time.

Let me share what the apartment looks like at the moment:

The living room: the bare necessities

My workspace: Where all the homework happens

Bedroom stacks: More books and bits

These are all temporary solutions that for now, have done the trick. I’m heading over to IKEA tomorrow for some storage and kitchen supplies. I need something for all my beads because right now they are at a state of chaos on a table and I can’t stand this lack of organization! It’s no wonder I haven’t made anything in ages — I don’t know where anything is!

But I’m not complaining. Not even about the cancelled Mad Men night. I’ve got Project Runway: Season 4 to keep me busy and I’ve been restraining myself to make the pleasure of watching it last longer.

Feel free to join me. I have limited seating but a lot of floor!

Are you in?

Math Monday

math monday

I’m still trying to figure out what day it is. All day today I thought it was Monday. Somewhere along the line, I checked my cellphone and realized that lo and behold, time can’t keep up with me and it’s already Tuesday. I had a few numbers I wanted to mention, so what the hell?

Play along, will you? Let’s go!

  • 4 new prints to be framed. Well, make that 2, because I couldn’t help it. Came to Cyprus to discover 4 prints from the wonderfully talented Sam. Thanks ever so much! They look great on my bedroom wall.
Picture perfect!

Picture perfect!

  • 1 point something weeks in Cyprus. Getting into the rhythm of things has been slow but I’m gradually getting there. Imminent move happening soon, as well as major renovation of my current apartment, but when all that happens, I’ll have some photos for you. It seems like eons from now.
  • 5 blog posts this week. This is a phenomenal change back to routine again. I’ve missed the internet and blogging.
  • 12 origami butterflies in all sorts of colors!
  • 1 lovely dog that was happy to see me again!
Woof! Meet muffin.

Woof! Meet muffin.

  • 3 yellow chairs I put together for my little classroom.
  • 1 new sticker on my car. Just so you can tell it’s me (thanks to Gabbi!)
Oh yes it is!

Oh yes it is!

How was your week in numbers?

The scoop

First, please help me with this — it has the makings of a possible mystery story and it’s giving me the creeps. This past weekend, we noticed that on the roof of the building next door, right in the corner, there was a discarded orange, halved with just the peel remaining. You may think, Fine, someone has been enjoying the 5th floor view and eating a refreshing orange. However the orange seemed to have been scooped out completely, which may suggest that the romantic orange-eater had remembered to take a spoon along to the roof. All these seem possible, so the whole orange-on-the-roof was put out of mind almost instantly.

So imagine our surprise when yesterday we came across this:

Orange corner: What the hell?

Orange corner: What the hell?

As you may notice, the one orange has suddenly mushroomed into A LOT. In fact, my whole romantic theory of enjoying the view no longer stands, and of that I’m sure. There is no way someone brought a spoon to scoop out all those oranges and then discarded them in the corner and went along with spoon in hand and feeling like he’d had his share of panoramic viewing for the day (not to mention Vitamin C). That’s just plain bananas (Ha!!). Why are all the oranges scooped out? Why are there so many? Why are they all piled in the corner so pitifully? Who does that? I find this very bizarre and tell me, don’t you? I seriously have no answers for this.

In other news, I have been helping a couple of friends find a new apartment, and the whole “apartment hunting” thing gives me such a thrill. After viewing 6 apartments which ranged from “Oh my God let’s get out of here, I can’t hold my breath any longer”, to “This is too perfect – there’s got to be a catch”, I came home giddy but disillusioned after realizing that, Oh wait a minute, I’m not the one moving.

It’s true, moving is a hassle, but for a chance to start fresh somewhere, I’m pretty sure I’d do it again in heartbeat. I live for change (which incidentally was what my former employer paid me), but I hope I don’t wake up tomorrow to a new mount of scooped oranges.

That’s more change than I can handle.

A super day

Yes, it’s been ages since I updated but things have been pretty hectic here in Crete-land. Today is a frantic day in which I hope to achieve a series of unfeasible goals. My to-do list is as follows:

– Clean my apartment before I start moving out

– Complete a video project. My mom hasn’t had a chance to visit me in my hole-of-an-apartment so I’m going to make a video giving her the entire one-minute tour (and that’s stretching it, to be honest). Will make it into something fun and artsy, no doubt.

– Start packing!

– Move a few of my basic things over to the new place.

– Upload the hundred something photos that have been idly waiting on that darn camera chip.

– Add some new photos here and on flickr.

– Open up my shop – or at least the main page with the banner or something.

– At least set up my beading workspace. I need to get back on the beading treadmill a.s.a.p.

[Here come my regulars:]

– Read on, dammit.

– Gym it up (definitely not happening today, haha!)

I will keep you posted on everything that is not happening. Most of these won’t, but it’s fun pretending I’m a Super Chick. Don’t even get me started on my special abilities.
